Thakeham ensures Zero Carbon Placemaking is on the agenda at Conservative Party Conference 2020
Exciting Conversations
With ministerial visits from the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, Secretary of state for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock & Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson to name but a few, Thakeham ensured zero carbon placemaking was a hot topic at this year’s virtual Conservative Party Conference. While leading the change within the industry, Conference this year was also an opportunity to present our vision to be a UK Top 10 housebuilder by 2030.
In previous years, Thakeham has enjoyed huge success with our exciting, interactive stands at the Conservative Party Conference, culminating in last year’s ‘Drive a Digger’ attraction, garnering national news coverage. This year’s virtual conference, has been a little different.
Leading the way
Without our physical stand, we’ve had to let our vision speak for itself, and Thakeham’s passion for and commitment to zero carbon placemaking and infrastructure-led development has, once again, been at the forefront of important virtual conversations this year.
Hoping to set the example for the construction industry to follow, Thakeham held two fringe events at conference, discussing both infrastructure-led development and sustainable, zero carbon placemaking. Rob Boughton, CEO of Thakeham was joined by Cllr Barry Wood – leader of Cherwell District and Chairman of the Ox/Cambs Arc Leaders’ Group, Chris Hayward CC – Sheriff of the City of London, Bob Blackman MP – Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee Member and Cllr Linda Haysey – Leader of East Hertfordshire District.
‘At Thakeham, Climate change is front and centre of our agenda. We want to be showcasing exemplar schemes of zero carbon placemaking; driving and inspiring real change across the development community, where the environment is at the heart of all design and build considerations.’
