Delivering Essential Retirement Housing for Uckfield, East Sussex
January 2017
Thakeham Client is delighted to have been appointed to construct a new Retirement Living scheme in Uckfield for Wealden District Council.
With a contract value of £10.3M, the scheme will provide no. 67 one and two bedroom apartments for affordable rent. This will make a positive contribution in terms of meeting the housing need for affordable retirement accommodation in the local area.
Currently, the existing retirement housing did not meet the council’s housing requirements and the decision was made to re-develop the site to deliver a new flagship retirement scheme which when completed, will be the largest scheme undertaken by the Council in recent years.
“We are delighted to be working with Thakeham Client on this exciting project which will provide high quality accommodation for people in their later years. This is the first time we have worked with Thakeham, and I am confident they will develop a scheme of which we can be proud.” Cllr Graham Wells, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Benefits at Wealden District Council
Coming Soon
Works commenced in January 2017 and the scheme is anticipated for completion in March 2019.
Situated in the heart of Uckfield the site has several challenges including, the retention of an existing bowls green throughout the duration of the works, and the sites close proximity to existing residents who are to remain in occupation throughout the works.
At all the key stages of the construction process, we will keep the local community informed as to our progress so that the impact and any inconvience is kept to a minimum.”
Facilities
In addition to their own self-contained apartments, the residents will have access to a communal lounge, an overnight guest suite, private gardens and an allotment area. The site is centrally located and will ensure easy access to Uckfield town centre.
Steve Tuhey, Thakeham Client says: “We are delighted to have been appointed by Wealden District Council to deliver this flagship scheme, and we look forward to working closely with Wealden DC and their employer’s agent, Ridge, as the scheme progresses”.
