It was our daughter-in-law who first told us about the plans to build new homes just down the road from where she and our son live. When we looked into it, Thakeham’s development ticked every box – following a difficult time for us, we felt like it might be fate. A small development, surrounded by mature trees, in an area we know, just 10 minutes’ walk from our family and, most importantly, a new homes development with new bungalows – which was exactly what we wanted.

Our hearts were set on living at Thakeham’s new development, 18 months before the houses even went on sale! We did look at other options, we knew we had to be sensible and realistic about our future. Peter looked at Zoopla and I looked at Rightmove, however we always went back to Thakeham’s website to see the latest updates on Valeside Keep!

We wanted a modern, energy efficient bungalow that didn’t require any work or DIY. A low maintenance home that allowed us the time to simply enjoy life. A newly built bungalow can be almost impossible to find – developers rarely build them and the second hand bungalows we looked at all needed a lot of work. We remained positive – we wanted one of the new bungalows at Valeside Keep.

A personal service that gave us confidence in our decision

We were not aware of Thakeham as a company, however our communication with the sales team, their website and their past projects, all gave us confidence in our decision to buy a new bungalow from them. We could have popped down to view a current development, the showhome at Peacehaven was open, but we were pretty comfortable to wait until Valeside Keep was available to view – we made sure we had the very first appointment!

We have never bought a new home before, but our experience with Thakeham has been excellent. Everyone we have spoken to is helpful and friendly – we have gotten to know several people over the last 18 months and not once have we been made to feel like we were bothering them – even when I called every other week! Peter was walking our dog past the development recently and Mark (Thakeham’s Sales Consultant) called him in and offered to show him our back garden, which had just been turfed. It’s been such a personal experience.

Throughout the process, Thakeham advised us and kept us reassured yet realistic. Buying a new home is different to buying a second-hand home and they helped us to understand the process. We knew we needed to be in a proceedable position when the new homes were released to the market so, when the market was good, we made the decision to sell our home in Felbridge – it sold in 3 days. We did take a risk; the reality was we didn’t know if we could even afford one of the new bungalows on Valeside Keep. However, our family supported our decision and we moved in with my son and his family in Burgess Hill. Despite some challenges (our cat is living in the local cattery until we move into our new home), we now know the local area which is now to become our home and we could not be happier.
