Golf at Goodwood
6th March 2017The Downs Course
The sun was shining and Golf at Goodwood was looking its best. Fuelled by breakfast bacon rolls, 94 hosts and guests took to The Downs Course at Goodwood for a Shotgun start and a day of golfing fun. This picturesque golf course in West Sussex is ranked in Golf World Magazine’s Top 100 English Courses and has been host to the English PGA Championship.
Teamwork
Playing in teams, a full handicap Stableford scoring system was in place taking the three best scores at each hole. Thakeham’s own Luke Hayward set the day off to a flying start by beating The Pro on the first tee competition, with three further players successfully challenging The Pro by the end of the day. There were also prizes for Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive, which made for some healthy competition amongst the teams! In good spirits, Thakeham hosts were on hand selling Mulligans and raised an impressive £1,360 for St Barnabas House Hospice.
Building Relationships
The opportunity to try clay pigeon shooting with the professional members of the Goodwood Clay Pigeon Shooting Club came as a welcome break for the golfers, who all enjoyed the challenge! After a hard day’s fun, a late lunch was served at the beautiful Goodwood House, followed by the presentation of prizes.
Congratulations to the winning team with a score of 123: Peter Youll, Thakeham; Pete Fry, Craneswater; Jeff Canning, Jackson Plumbing; and Westley Gregory, Woodhart Carpentry.
“This year’s Thakeham Golf Day was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen existing relationships and to build some exciting new ones. With over 94 hosts and guests taking part, it did not disappoint! It was heartening to see everyone enjoying the spring sunshine on the beautiful course at Goodwood, playing some great golf and trying a hand at clay pigeon shooting. Thank you to Imerys Roof Tiles and McCann Ltd for sponsoring the prizes for Nearest the Pin, Longest Drive & the lucky winners’ medals. It was a brilliant day and I look forward to next year’s event!”
