Dragon Boat Race
It was loud, it was wet, it was competitive…and shoulders are aching! The Annual St Catherine’s Hospice Under The Sea themed Dragon Boat Race delivered a fabulous day for 28 teams and crowds of spectators and supporters at Tilgate Park Lake, Crawley.
The event hopes to raise over £50,000 for St Catherine’s Hospice, which provides free care for more than 2,000 patients a year and supports those closest to them. It costs £17,225 a day to provide the care services and the sponsorship the event raises will help the Hospice continue its great work.

Fun and Laughter
The Thakeham team paddled hard and put everything they had in to it – for a team of complete novices who were two paddlers down, the Thakeham Lions were amazed to boast the second fastest race time [01.03.94] after the qualifying races, taking them straight into the final.
Despite some great competitive racing tips from the experienced helmsman, with a strong start and paddling with all their might, the team sadly didn’t make the medals; coming a very respectful 6th in a final of 12 teams, with a time of 01.06.63. Although no medals were won, the fun, laughter and sense of team camaraderie saw the Thakeham Lions leave with smiles on their faces, keen to come back next year to take on the Dragon Boat Race challenge again!
