Thakeham Career Insight and Engagement Day

Talent for Development by Thakeham

As Thakeham continues to grow the team we have in place, and the growth of that team, remain key to the company’s future.

This programme has been designed by us to nurture talent within Thakeham by structuring professional journeys, as well as helping to attract new skills and talent to join the Thakeham team. The huge wealth of skills and talent held by military veterans is of great interest to Thakeham, and is an area we plan to support in the future.

John Gaffney, Group Construction Director at Thakeham Group comments: “This pool of talent and its value to our industry cannot be underestimated. There are approximately 120,000 military veterans of working age in Britain today and we hope to support and encourage them to look to housebuilding and construction for a future career opportunity. We know our industry can offer excellent opportunities.”

Our First Event

Part of Thakeham’s plan is to organise events for both students and military veterans. Our first event, a Career Insight and Engagement morning, took place on Wednesday 17th May at East Surrey College in Redhill.

It was an inspiring morning. Our Group Managing Director, Rob Boughton, presented Thakeham and its growth story to an audience of college students and local military veterans, all interested in finding out more about a career in construction. The event gave us the chance to promote the opportunities the industry can offer and to introduce several of our consultants, suppliers and contractors, many of which had current positions to fill. The growth and success of our company is based on teamwork and the strong relationships we hold with our contacts is essential.

The event was well received by both hosts and attendees and we look forward to future events, and the opportunity to help address the skills shortage facing our industry today.

Robert Boughton comments:

“It’s simple, the construction industry is a great place for a long and successful career – it’s an industry where you can grow, develop and achieve.

“However, this view is not as visible as we would like – so Thakeham has launched its Talent for Development scheme. We will inspire those already on a journey with us and, equally as important, we will communicate to and educate a wider audience about the opportunities available – from architecture to engineering, brick laying to plumbing, site management to sales and marketing.

“As part of our drive to attract talent into construction, we will be talking to military veterans. They offer great skills and commitment which, with the right training and support, will ensure successful careers.

“I am passionate about Thakeham’s Talent for Development scheme. Not only is this our ambition, it is also our duty to do the best we can to support careers in housebuilding and construction.”
