Thakeham Golf Day 2016
10th May 2016The First of Many
The first ever Thakeham Golf Day took place on 10th May 2016 on the Downs Course on the Goodwood Estate, which is ranked 59th in Golf World Magazine’s Top 100 English golf courses and home to the PGA Championship. The event was a huge success, so much so, that it must now be destined an annual affair.
Structured as a team competition using a full handicap Stableford scoring system with the best three scores counting at each hole and a separate prize for nearest the pin at the 12th hole and longest drive at the 18th hole. There was also the opportunity to try clay pigeon shooting with the professional members of the Goodwood Clay Pigeon Shooting Club.
A Thakeham Twist
As one would expect of a Thakeham event there was a surprise or two, including exploding golf balls, hosts wearing interesting golf attire and alternative golf clubs including a giant catapult, a tennis racket and a baseball bat!
We have posted a number of photos on our Pinterest Board click here to take a look.
As part of the Thakeham Golf Day, we raised £1,260 for St Barnabas House, an independent charitable hospice located in Worthing. Steve Tuhey and his daughter Lily, together with Adam Eaton who helped organise the event, were delighted to present a cheque to Jennifer Murrell of St Barnabas.
The Winning Team
Congratulations to the winning team with a score of 130 – a four ball made up of Roger Bennett, Thakeham; Mick McGovern, PJ Brown; Jez Wheatley, Home Developments; and Wayne Price, NJS.
“We would like to thank our sponsors, Imerys Roof Tiles and McCann Ltd, and everyone that made the event possible – the Thakeham Golf Day delivered a fantastic day out in a beautiful setting with many new relationships formed and a great time had by all.” Robert Boughton, MD, Thakeham
