Thakeham Golf Day 2018, take two!
4th October 2018A great day for golf
The second golf day in the Thakeham calendar this year took place last week in the last blast of the summer sunshine.
The Downs course at Goodwood was the stunning setting of the event and with the sun shining and the day warm, spirits were high.
Exciting competition
Over 50 golfers took to the course, after filling up on bacon rolls at The Kennels to get them round the first few holes of course! The competition was ready to begin. With the shotgun sounding across the Goodwood course, the players, poised and ready, were off!
With some spectacular play from the more experienced golfers, and some valiant efforts from some novices to the game, the day was full of exciting competition and moments of hilarity, all taken in great sportsmanship.
The winning team, scoring 88, and 3 points clear from the runners up, comprised of Mark Henwood, Jonathan Wilson of Abbey Pynford and Alex Young of Windows for Construction. The team were presented a trophy and a bottle of Bolney Bubbly by our Group Managing Director, Robert Boughton.
The wooden spoon
We can’t miss out a mention of the team in last place, 34 points behind the next team, who also won a prize for the honesty in scoring their game! Nigel Kennedy of Commucan, in the ‘honest’ team, said of the day:
‘The whole event was a winner as far as I’m concerned. Thoroughly nice people, perfect organisation, ideal weather, beautiful golf course, great nosh. Teaming me up with Charlie and Sam was such a good idea. We had a laugh a hole – and still came last. The miracle is that we scored any points at all. But now that we are a winning combination, I have suggested that we consider entering major international tournaments. I thought it might interest you to know that I didn’t play the last hole because I managed to lose four balls in a row straight off the tee. Yes really! I think that’s a personal record. Thank you for all your thoughtful hard work and good humour.’
Nigel’s Thakeham host, Charlie Adams, added:
‘It really is a brilliant opportunity for Thakeham’s staff and consultants to get to know each other better on a personal level. My guests both agreed it was one of the best corporate events they had ever been to’
All in all, a fantastic day was had by all the teams, regardless of ability! Thank you to all that came to join us on the day and we look forward to next year’s golfing fun at the much-loved Downs Course at Goodwood.
