Thakeham holds training day at Goodwood for its Construction team

The importance of relationships

At Thakeham, we hugely value the importance of great relationships, development and teamwork. Building strong relationships and working together, both within our teams and with our wider family of contractors and partners, enables us to deliver the exceptional results we demand.

This ethos has always been at the heart of all that Thakeham does, so to ensure this is maintained, training and teambuilding days are essential. On Friday, it was the turn of the Construction team to take a little time away from their usual environment, for them to work together and to have a bit of fun too.

Back at Goodwood

Hosted by our good friends at Goodwood, 21 Site Managers and Assistant Site Managers descended for a day of training, teambuilding and good food.

Starting with some invaluable management training, the team congregated in great spirits and fuelled by bacon sandwiches, kicked off the day.

Management and leadership

A great, informative session on management and leadership was introduced by John Gaffney, Group Production Director, and led by innovative facilitator, trainer and speaker, David White, Founder of People and Organisation Development.

Man talking to room of men

Offering this time to share experiences and develop as a team is an opportunity Thakeham relishes. The conversations, debates and enhanced relationships that grow out of days like this spent together are testament to their importance.

After a morning of learning, reflecting and discussion, the buggy fun was ready to commence!

Buggy fun!

The next part of the day was held at Goodwood Rage Buggy Track. All briefed, the team were ready to take to their buggies and race around the track! A highlight of the day for many involved. Each member was whizzed around the track by an instructor too, just in case the adrenalin hadn’t quite kicked in!

Calum Semark, the Project Manager for Thakeham’s upcoming development at Pease Pottage (Thakeham’s largest scheme to date) said this of the day:

“It was great to have the time to catch up with my construction colleagues outside of our usual working environment. The buggies were such a laugh, and a fantastic way for us all to blow off a bit of steam after a morning’s invaluable management and leadership training. A very memorable day with strong relationships made stronger by time spent doing something different, together!”

A message from our MD

Once we’d tired them all out on the buggies, it was time for drinks, hosted by Rob Boughton, Thakeham’s Group Managing Director, at the Goodwood Hotel followed by a private dinner and a night’s accommodation. Rob commented on the training day:

“Teamwork is at the centre of all Thakeham does. The day at Goodwood was a great opportunity for our team to cement their fantastic working relationships and for them to develop, together, through shared experience and great fun too. I hope it was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Goodwood who once again provided the perfect setting for the day, and to the Construction team for taking part in such good spirits.”
