Thakeham hosts What’s Next for Housing Construction conference

The importance of housing construction

Our ‘What’s Next for Housing Construction’ conference at the Hilton London Gatwick Airport had a simple agenda: to start a conversation with our partners and subcontractors about building a better future for South East housing.

Property professionals

We invited our partners, subcontractors and contacts from all aspects of housing construction to join us for a morning of inspirational conversation and presentations by key experts in the housing industry. With over 250 property professionals in the room, the atmosphere was absolutely buzzing.

Inspirational speakers

Our Group Managing Director, Robert Boughton, invited four experts in the industry to join him on stage. This was a not to miss opportunity to listen to five of the South East’s most inspirational and passionate housing sector and business speakers under one roof, for the first time.

Lucian Cook, director, residential research and Charlie Collins, head of planning South East, both with Savills, John Slaughter, director of external affairs for the Home Builders Federation and Robert Colvile, director of the CPS and CAPX Editor-in-Chief.

Our speakers were challenged to ignite conversations that would inspire fresh thinking and give clarity to the housing challenges faced in the South East.

Our audience was in for a treat

Our speakers delivered informative, interesting and data driven presentations, with enthusiasm, wit and importantly, expert opinion. We heard their ideas and thoughts on how together we can transform the future of housing construction in the South East.

The presentations fueled a lively Q&A session and vibrant business networking over lunch, providing our guests with a perfect opportunity to further discuss and debate their own thoughts and questions. New relationships have been formed, strengthening our approach to working together, in partnership.

A message from our MD

Robert Boughton, Group Managing Director said: “I’d like to thank our speakers and guests for joining us for an early start on a very cold day. I hope you agree that the warmth and energy in the room was the perfect antidote to the frosty weather!

“All UK industries face important challenges in the years ahead and housing construction is certainly no exception. As most of you know, I am passionate about bringing change, about creating places for people to live, work and play – about delivering high quality housing and the infrastructure needed to support these new communities.

“That’s why it is so important to me to be able to bring you all together in one room to hear our experts, to gain valuable knowledge, and to understand the part we can all play in working together to face the issues challenging our industry today and in the future. It’s about making a difference.

“Our first conference was a huge success and we look forward to continuing discussions with you all on a more personal level – and to planning our next event to bring you all together.”
