Turning a brownfield site to good use in Godalming, Surrey

March 2017

Thakeham Client is delighted to have been appointed by Waverley Borough Council to construct 24 new affordable rented homes at Wey Court, Godalming, Surrey.

Steve Tuhey, Thakeham Client’s Managing Director said: “We are delighted to have won this open tender giving us the opportunity to demonstrate to Waverley Borough Council the value and expertise that Thakeham Client can bring to projects of this type.”

The brownfield site, owned by Waverley Borough Council, will help to meet the council’s high demand for good quality, affordable housing in the Godalming area. Work begins in March 2017 for 14 months on the timber framed, 3 storey new homes. Once completed the new homes will comprise 14 one bedroom and eight 2 bedroom flats and two 2 bedroom houses, all for affordable rent. The contract value of the scheme is £3 million.  As part of the scheme, additional parking spaces will be provided for the residents who live adjacent to the scheme.

Thakeham Client will fully engage with the existing community to ensure they are fully briefed at all stages of the development’s progress. This will include a residents’ newsletter to ensure everyone is kept up to date on the schemes progress.

Louisa Blundell, Housing Development Manager at Waverley said: “Engaging with local people and minimising disruption while building high quality homes is the way we like to work at Waverley. We are very much looking forward to working with Thakeham Client who share our commitment to building homes that are not only great to live in but enhance the local environment.”
