Lucian joined Savills in 1993 after completing a degree in Land Economy at the University of Cambridge. As a practising surveyor he specialised in valuation advice for taxation, loan security and dispute resolution purposes and strategic management advice for a range of clients.

Lucian is now one of the UK’s leading commentators on the housing market. At Savills he heads up a team of 34 highly respected researchers. Collectively they cover everything from social housing to the prime markets, and provide consultancy advice to landowners, developers, housebuilders and investors.

He has written extensively on the prime housing markets, the impact of taxation on property, the demand for private rented housing and opportunities for institutional investment in the residential sector.

Charlie Collins

Head of Planning South East, Savills

Charlie specialises in strategic development, planning promotions, planning applications, green belt and CIL. His focus is on the housing sector. Charlie has been a planning consultant for over 12 years, following his early career in local government. He has been responsible for the Guildford/Sevenoaks planning team since August 2016, growing the team to twelve professionals.

Charlie was, up until 2018, Savills Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) lead planner, helping to coordinate the Home Builders Federation CIL Initiative. ‎ He now advises on Thought Leadership for Savills Planning, including relevant research publications.

John Slaughter

Director of External Affairs for the Home Builders Federation

John has a general representational role at HBF and is also responsible for a wide range of policy issues at both national and regional level. He leads on political liaison for HBF, including representations on major legislation and regulatory change, and helps provide HBF’s media comment. He has particular policy responsibility for skills, urban design and sustainability issues, including the Government’s zero carbon homes objective. He is a member of the 2016 Task Force which oversees work on the zero carbon objective and has also been a member of the steering group for the current Technical Housing Standards Review.

His critically acclaimed book ‘The Great Acceleration: How the World is Getting Faster, Faster’ was published by Bloomsbury in 2016, and he was for many years a Research Fellow at the CPS alongside his journalism work.
