Woodgate Site Manager Wins Regional Accolade for High Standards

We are delighted that one of our site managers has won regional recognition for high standards in house building.

Calum Semark is managing the site at Woodgate, Pease Pottage in West Sussex. Calum’s commitment has been acknowledged in the NHBC’s (National House Building Council) Pride in the Job Awards.

It’s the 40th year the prestigious awards have been judged. The competition is dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the very highest standards in house building.

Calum’s is one of only 450 UK site managers to win a Quality Award from a field of more than 11,000. This represents the top 4% of those who entered.

For Thakeham, Rob Boughton, Group CEO, said:

Well done to Calum and the whole team at Woodgate! To be selected as one of the UK’s top site managers is a testament to Calum’s commitment to delivering quality homes.

Calum Semark, Thakeham site manager, said:

Thank you to the NHBC for noticing the work we’re doing here at Woodgate. We’re running a great site delivering over 600 new homes. There’s a whole range of infrastructure and community facilities too, including a new school and hospice.

We’re creating the best experience for residents that we can. Quality and high building standards are a big part of that. Most importantly, it’s the team spirit and cooperation  across the site that has made the difference.

The Woodgate development at Pease Pottage is a joint venture between Thakeham Group and Radian. The 45-hectare site is located off Parish Lane to the south of Crawley and to the east of the Moto Service Station in Pease Pottage. Woodgate will include 619 new homes, a new school, a shop and a coffee shop, a community centre, parks and a pavilion. The development will also provide a home for locally-based charity, St Catherine’s Hospice.

Pride in the Job is the most highly regarded competition in the house-building industry. Judging for the Awards is rigorous, the current competition began in July 2019, with each site manager assessed across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise, and health and safety.

Subject to NHBC team of judges being able to visit sites over the next two months, the Quality Award winners will now go on to compete for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards that are planned to be announced at a series of virtual events in the autumn, with the Supreme Award winners unveiled in January 2021.

Commenting on the Awards, NHBC Chief Executive Steve Wood said:

Pride in the Job has been pivotal in improving the quality of new homes so it’s fantastic to be able to celebrate its 40th anniversary. Despite the numerous challenges the industry has faced in recent times, the very best site managers of 2020 have kept their focus on delivering high-quality new homes for their customers.

At NHBC we are very proud of Pride in the Job, what it stands for and the impact it has had and continues to have across the sector.

As our new research shows, it’s no surprise that Pride in the Job winning sites have higher levels of homeowner satisfaction as these homes are without a doubt among the best the country has to offer. Congratulations to all the 2020 Quality Award winners – be proud of your incredible achievements!
