Cementing our presence in Kent with a new office
Leading south of England housebuilder and community creator, Thakeham, has cemented its presence in Kent with the launch of a base in the county.
The office in Kings Hill, West Malling, was officially opened last week by Councillor Matt Boughton, Leader of Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council. He was joined by representatives of Wilder Carbon, an initiative by Kent Wildlife Trust that Thakeham has partnered with to offset carbon emissions, and Vigo RFC, a local sports club Thakeham has donated funds to in its efforts to support grassroots sports in the areas it operates in. Following a tour of the new office with Thakeham’s Chief Strategy Officer, Julian Rooney, the group heard more about the company’s ambitions in the region.
Thakeham delivers amazing places to live, where quality homes sit alongside the infrastructure and amenities needed for communities to thrive. With a focus on achieving net zero carbon homes, it is at the forefront of placemaking in the UK and is looking to build more of those homes, including quality social housing, in the county.
Headquartered in Billingshurst, West Sussex, and with a second office in Wokingham, Berkshire, this is Thakeham’s third office and will serve as a hub for the housebuilder’s operations in the region. It will also provide a local office space for use by the regional site teams and a meeting place for Thakeham staff members, its partners, and stakeholders.
Julian Rooney said: “Establishing this base in Kent is a fantastic milestone for Thakeham as it allows us to widen our operations and have a firm foothold in the region. Thakeham wants to build more quality, sustainable homes in the county, and with that create more jobs and training opportunities. This new office will help our growing workforce to build relationships with Kent-based based companies, delivery partners, contractors and landowners. We’re pleased to have joined the community of great businesses at Kings Hill and look forward to creating more homes in Kent.”
Thakeham has a earned a reputation as a trusted partner for housing associations, having previously delivered several affordable home developments with partners in Kent, and is currently increasing its pipeline with a range of opportunities under contract and for delivery in 2025/2025 and beyond.
Cllr Boughton said: “It’s great to see businesses investing in the region and I welcome Thakeham to Tonbridge and Malling. As a carbon neutral business and an industry leader in its commitment to delivering net zero carbon homes and biodiversity protection, Thakeham is very much aligned with the Borough’s climate change strategy. I hope this commitment will result in quality sustainable homes across the area.”
Thakeham’s newest office features an open plan layout with break out spaces and kitchen, as well as meeting rooms and some individual offices.
Caroline Binns of Kings Hill developer Liberty Property Trust said: “We are pleased to welcome Thakeham to Kings Hill. The broad range of amenities available to our tenants and the quality of the landscaped surroundings we provide make Kings Hill a compelling location for companies wanting to offer their employees an attractive working environment.”
