Permission granted for 68 new homes in Ringmer

Leading local housebuilder and community creator, Thakeham, has received planning permission to build 68 homes on land at Bishops Lane, Ringmer.

An original planning application for the site submitted by Thakeham in 2021 was refused by Lewes District Council’s Planning Committee in September 2022. However, the housebuilder appealed to the Secretary of State via the Planning Inspectorate, believing the grounds for refusal to be unjustified, particularly given the lack of housing supply in the District.

Following a four-day Planning Inquiry in October this year, the Planning Inspector agreed with Thakeham and the appeal was allowed and planning permission granted earlier this month.

Planning Director at Thakeham, Chris Brake, said: “After a two-year period, it is a relief to have been granted planning permission to provide these much-needed homes. We are committed to working with the local community and the District Council to see high quality homes delivered for all.”
