Supporting the armed forces with silver covenant

Thakeham has been recognised for its support of the armed forces for the second time in two years.

Last year, we became the first home builder in the South East to receive a Bronze Award Armed Forces Covenant. The accolade acknowledges the company’s armed forces-friendly culture.

This time, we become a signatory of the Silver Award Armed Forces Covenant. The silver award represents a deeper commitment to the recruitment of armed forces personnel and the promotion of armed forces policies throughout the company.

The award comes at a time of significant growth. In June, MP Theresa May officially opened our new Thames Valley Office. Further North, we are spearheading plans to create the UK’s first truly sustainable community in South West Cambridgeshire.

The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme

The covenant declaration is part of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) designed to recognise private and public sector support for the armed services. It encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same.

Thakeham is one of a few home builders in the South East to receive a Silver Award. This accolade acknowledges the company’s armed forces-friendly culture. Importantly it also recognises the work and dedication many of you have undertaken to help achieve this recognition.

Our support for the UK’s armed forces is important to Thakeham. We have immense respect for their contribution to the country. We employ a number of former armed services personnel and we continue our support of wounded service personnel and their families through our work with the charity Mission Motorsport.

Armed Forces Day

Thakeham marked last year’s National Armed Forces day with a £25,000 donation to Mission Motorsport.

Armed Forces Day is an annual opportunity for the country to show support for the men and women from the Armed Forces community. Mission Motorsport (www.mission motorsport.org) is an armed forces charity that helps members affected by military operations.

Talent for development

We have a long history of supporting local service people and support the annual CTP Employment Fair which introduces service veterans to local and national employers.

We also run a ‘Talent for Development’ outreach campaign for military veterans and college leavers. Many former armed service personnel now work for the company having benefited from the program.
