Considerate constructors top score at Woodgate
Woodgate achieves maximum marks by the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
The new Woodgate development in Pease Pottage, Sussex has achieved a maximum score – 45 out of 45 – in the latest national Considerate Constructors Scheme reports.
The Woodgate development is a joint venture between Thakeham and Abri Homes. The 45-hectare site is located off Parish Lane to the south of Crawley near Pease Pottage.
Woodgate includes 619 new homes, a shop and a coffee shop, a community centre, parks, and a pavilion. The development will also provide a home for a locally based charity, St Catherine’s Hospice.
The Considerate Constructors Scheme is a not-for-profit, independent organisation founded to raise standards in the construction industry. Construction sites, companies and suppliers voluntarily register with the scheme and agree to abide by the Code of Considerate Practice. The code is designed to encourage best practices in three areas: Respect the Community, Care for the Environment and Value their Workforce.
Care for the Environment at Thakeham’s Pease Pottage site warranted special comments. The Considerate Constructors Scheme report observed that:
“The site has a nominated Sustainability Champion who ensures that the environmental policy and waste plans are referenced on the site notice boards. There is a travel plan and the team has a green approach to purchasing. Environmental practices are exceptional without a doubt with a clear focus on sustainability and increasing biodiversity.”
For Billingshurst-based Thakeham, Rob Boughton, CEO, said:
“This is an excellent outcome. We are especially pleased to achieve full marks at our Pease Pottage site. It reflects the dedication, effort and commitment to raise and maintain our standards of considerate construction. Congratulations to the Thakeham site managers, workers and subcontractors who are actively putting the community at the heart of considerate construction. We are proud of the difference you are making in our communities.”
Two More Thakeham Southeast Sites Also Achieve High Marks
Two other Thakeham Partnerships sites in Newhaven and Horsmonden also achieved high scores of 42 and 40 respectively.
Thakeham started work on 74 affordable homes for housing association Optivo in Newhaven, East Sussex last December. The development will feature a range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments for affordable rent built at Clifton Road in Newhaven. The ground floor will feature a community arts space for the whole community.
At the other high-scoring site in Horsmonden, Thakeham is creating a community of 49 new homes for housing association Monson Homes. The development on Furnace Lane on the western outskirts of the village of Horsmonden will include a range of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties. The properties will be available under a mix of tenures; market sale, shared ownership, and affordable rent.
