HR Director recognised as Careers Champion
A Career Champion
It’s an honour to have dedicated colleagues who go the extra mile in and outside the workplace.
Our very own HR Director, Liane Richardson has been recognised as a Careers Champion by The Careers & Enterprise Company. Liane has opened opportunities for truly inspirational experiences in the workplace for young people, which even resulted in one student starting his own journey into entrepreneurship.
World at work week
Focusing on future generations is a key pillar of our social value strategy. Between the 4th – 8th of July, Thakeham managers set out to take over teaching curriculum lessons to talk about their areas of expertise.
These include
- Design & Engineering
- Advertising and Marketing
- Leadership & Entrepreneurship
This is a great way to get our colleagues integrated within schools. Allowing lessons to be brought to life by running crash courses on cv writing and linking what young people are learning to real-life experiences and careers within the workplace.
As part of the World of Work Week last year, a visit was arranged for selected pupils who were particularly inspired by the programme to the Thakeham Homes office in Billingshurst, West Sussex. This visit had a particular impact on one young student, Edward Anderson.
Ed’s Shed Woodworking
Ed’s visit was organised as an opportunity to quiz Thakeham Group Chief Strategy Officer, Julian Rooney, about his insights and tips for business growth. The conversation took an unexpected turn when Ed explained his passion for hand-crafting wooden creations.
Leaving our offices inspired and filled with new knowledge, Ed set up his own business – Ed’s Shed Woodworking.
Since the age of 13, Ed has been passionate about woodworking, so it seemed only right he brought this with him on his new journey. Specialising in all things wooden, such as chopping boards, serving boards and wine displays.
Impressed by Ed’s passion and entrepreneurialism, Thakeham Homes subsequently struck a commissioning deal with Ed to provide handmade wooden tableware to use in their show homes.
Liane’s work made this possible, setting an excellent example of how local businesses can connect with schools to inspire and develop young local talent.
Liane, you are an inspiration to all of us at Thakeham, Thank you!
