Inspiring the next generation of industry leaders

As National Careers Week (6-11 March) draws to a close, Thakeham is looking back on a busy week of activities aimed at inspiring the next generation of industry leaders.

To mark the occasion, our staff have been out and about attending a variety of events all over Sussex, from careers fairs and large-scale events to delivering school assemblies.

To kick the week off, we attended the Kings School, Ringmer, careers event where a traditional careers fair was followed by a breakout session which gave those students who had expressed an interest in Thakeham and the industry to spend time with the Thakeham team. During this session, the students were tasked with an ‘Urban Design Challenge’, where they had to create a community using a selection of different house types. The challenge was much enjoyed and their efforts and enthusiasm left the team very impressed!

Thakeham was also invited to participate in ‘Hello Future’, a Coast to Capital LEP showcase careers event aimed at over 5,000 post-16 students in the Brighton area, and one of our Site Managers, shared his experience and knowledge of the industry when he delivered a careers assembly at Seahaven Academy in Newhaven.

National Careers Week 2023

On Thursday, our Chief Finance Officer and Communications Manager attended the Weald school careers fair in Billingshurst, leveraging our long-term relationship with the school to promote careers within the industry.

Participating in all these activities not only helps inspire young minds but also gives colleagues a chance to share their passion and dedication outside of the usual work environment. As a Cornerstone Employer, Thakeham recognises the need to actively engage with young people, to nurture their aspirations and ensure they are supported to achieve their goals so that they can create a lasting and positive impact on the industry.

Thakeham’s involvement in National Careers Week is part of a broader strategy to promote our values of social responsibility and sustainable development to the community, which includes a ‘Building Future Generations’ Social Value pillar.
