What is a Zero Bills home?
A Zero Bills™ home combines solar panels, a heat pump, a battery, with smart technology. It is highly energy-efficient and carbon-free. Octopus Energy’s Kraken system balances energy use, managing what’s taken from and sent to the grid. This results in no energy bills for at least five years, guaranteed.
We’ve partnered with Octopus Energy to deliver Zero Bills™ in as many of our new build homes as possible. Almost half our homes at Templegate in Burgess Hill are eligible for a Zero Bills tariff.
How do Octopus Zero Bills work?
Your home generates its own renewable energy with solar panels and an air source heat pump. It stores this energy in a battery located in your home. You can set and adjust your heating preferences in the app.
Octopus Energy’s Kraken system manages your energy use for you. It will sell surplus energy to the national grid and buy energy when needed. Octopus covers this under a ‘Fair Use Allowance’ which is set at double the typical household usage.
Can you build a house with no energy bills?
With the right mix of solar panels, home battery and heat pump, you enjoy no energy bills for five years – guaranteed.
Our homes are ultra efficient, using and wasting less energy than a typical home. Low energy lighting and efficient appliances reduce energy usage. Water saving devices and wastewater recovery systems, alongside thermal insulation reduces energy waste.
How to have zero energy bills?
When you move into your new Zero Bills home, you’ll receive a welcome pack from Octopus Energy. This includes all the info you need to set up your heating preferences in the Octopus Energy app.
