Brighter Futures feature by CIH and ITN Business
Thakeham has participated in ‘Brighter Futures’, a programme produced by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and ITN Business.
The programme, which premiered at Europe’s largest housing festival, Housing 2023, on June 27, takes us to Thakeham’s flagship development, Woodgate, Pease Pottage.
‘Brighter Futures’ looks at the invaluable work of housing providers in creating sustainable, inclusive communities. Thakeham, through its contribution to the programme, highlights the significance of multiple elements in the creation of truly sustainable communities, such as integrated affordable homes, biodiversity preservation and enhancement, and community assets.
Woodgate embodies Thakeham’s commitment to community creation. The development offers high-quality homes, including a policy-compliant provision of tenure-blind, affordable housing, £7m of infrastructure improvements and a brand-new primary school that serves Woodgate residents and the wider community.
In addition to creating high quality homes, the development features the newly opened Woodgate Hub, a community centre complete with a shop, café and multi-use spaces, developed in collaboration with, and to be run by, St. Catherine’s Hospice, the local community and the Plunkett Foundation.
The Woodgate Hub sits on the edge of a large village green, the focal point of the new community and just one of the open green spaces residents can enjoy, allowing for easy access to nature for all.
Featuring editorial profiles, the programme promises a wealth of knowledge sharing and interviews with industry leaders who share stories of best practice in the sector so other housing providers can benefit from and be inspired by these stories.
