Half marathon in support of Lighthouse charity

This year’s Brighton Half Marathon saw over 10,000 participants running 13.1 miles to raise money for a wide range of charities and good causes. Among them were 13 Thakeham running enthusiasts who teamed up to raise vital funds for the Lighthouse Club, the only charity that provides mental, physical and financial support to construction workers and their families.

Having provided charitable support to the construction community since 1956, Lighthouse Club offers a range of free resources to support the industry. These include focused wellbeing and mental health training, a 24/7 helpline for those looking for support and an app that enables people to access first line advice and resources.

Putting their creative minds together, the team undertook a series of fundraising activities such as setting up a tuck shop in the office kitchen, a Valentine’s Day bake sale, our very own Thakeham car wash and a quiz night at Horsham Rugby Club.

At the wave of the flag on 26th February, our team set off from leafy Preston Park just north of the city centre, taking in the sights and sounds of Brighton as they passed many of the city’s landmarks including Hove Lagoon, The West Pier, British Airways i360E, Brighton Palace Pier and The Royal Pavilion, before heading back along the iconic promenade to the finish line.

The team put in a fantastic effort, achieving an excellent set of times, including Senior Architectural Technologist, Anthony, who went a step further by taking part in the race dressed as a lion, representing the team in true Thakeham style.

We are extremely proud of the team’s achievement and in this years Brighton Half Marathon. In addition to the £1,000 donation Thakeham made this month, they raised a fantastic £2,602 for The Lighthouse Club, an amount which will go some way to helping the charity continue the important work they do for our colleagues across the industry.
