New affordable homes completed in Portslade

New Artwork Installation Unveiled

The Mayor of Brighton and Hove has led a celebration to mark the completion of 125 new affordable homes in Portslade.

The Mayor of Brighton and Hove, councillor Lizzie Deane, cut the ceremonial ribbon in front of community representatives, local dignitaries, developers, builders, architects and housing association executives.

This was the final milestone in the creation of a new community of affordable homes for local people on Graham Avenue in Portslade; with 22% of homes for rent and 78% for shared ownership.

The development of the site close to the A27 has been completed on time by Thakeham for Clarion Housing Group.  In addition to the much-needed new homes, the entrance to the roundabout on Fox Way has been widened and a new footway on Mile Oak Road has been delivered.

“It was wonderful to see so many people from the community and stakeholder organisations coming together to create this new community in Portslade. The Mayoral celebration was a fitting way to celebrate another successful collaboration between Thakeham and Clarion. The worthy result is a stunning new community offering much-needed affordable homes for local people in Portslade.”

The completion of the development was also marked with the unveiling of new bespoke artwork, installed as part of the Portslade scheme. This was coordinated by Clarion Futures, the charitable foundation of Clarion Housing Group, following consultation with the local community.

Created by local artists, Lois O’Hara and Ronnie Chapple, the artwork takes the form of three benches located around the site which have been designed to be sat and climbed on whilst giving a nod to the rolling hills and sea that form a key part of the site’s natural surroundings.
