Local Skills Improvement Plan for Sussex
South East community creator Thakeham has been chosen to contribute to a new employer-led approach to skills planning in Sussex.
The Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) for Sussex, the Department of Education initiative has been produced by the Sussex Chamber of Commerce; one of eight employer representative bodies testing the new approach.
The DFE’s want to ensure employer voices are heard and articulated in their plans to inform the decisions of local skills providers and inform relevant future funding bids.
This Local Skills Improvement Plan will be a starting point for any future Local Skills Improvement Plan produced under a national roll out of the programme.
Thakeham and the construction sector will be represented by HR Director Liane Richardson. Liane said:
“The Local Skills Improvement Plan is an important initiative which will help to bridge the skills gap and improve career options for local people. We are pleased to be involved and hope that our insights in the South East construction industry can offer useful insights as the plan takes shape.”
Sussex Chamber of Commerce is leading the development and delivery of the LSIP for Brighton and Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex.
Liane will be involved once the Chamber has finalised its LSIP delivery plans through to March 2025 with The Department of Education (DfE). The Chamber will be taking these plans forward by bringing together and working in partnership with employers (including Thakeham), training providers and other key stakeholders across Sussex.
Earlier this year, Thakeham was recognised as the Best Construction and Engineering company to work for in the country. During the prestigious Best Companies awards Thakeham was also placed 11th in the ‘Best Large Companies to Work For’ and 5th in the South East. All of the businesses placed in the lists are acknowledged by staff as enlightened places to work with highly motivated employees and inspirational leaders.
