Nature-themed artwork competition winners from The Raleigh School announced at Manorwood

On Wednesday 28th June, Thakeham welcomed parents, pupils and teachers from The Raleigh School to the developer’s Manorwood development in West Horsley to announce the winners of their nature-themed art competition.

Every pupil was invited to submit their artwork on a pebble. The nature theme represented Thakeham’s commitment to sustainability and biodiversity, as well as The Raleigh School’s focus on creativity.

And the winner is…

After careful consideration of over 100 entries, seven students scooped a prize at a special ceremony hosted at Manorwood’s new showhome; the winners were Milly, Grace, Annie, Finn, Elena, Nick and Keira. All winners took home a certificate and a nature-themed prize including an insect house and bee hotel kit.

The prizegiving took place in the nature garden at the new showhome. As part of Thakeham’s commitment for nature to thrive at all their developments, the showhome garden has been designed not only as a beautiful place to relax and enjoy but to allow nature to flourish.

The garden includes a safe haven for hedgehogs, with houses and highways as well as specially planted ferns which encourage snails, bugs and are ideal for hedgehog foraging. In addition, lavenders have been planted to support bee pollination alongside the flowering cornus. There are also hollies throughout the garden which birds can feed from seasonally.

Rob Boughton, CEO of Thakeham, comments:

Thakeham is very proud to be a part of the local community in West Horsley, as we continue to create a new and thriving neighbourhood at Manorwood. A huge thank you to all the students at The Raleigh School for taking part, we’ve seen some excellent artwork and it has been a pleasure to welcome more new faces to the development and to host the prizegiving ceremony.

Gardening for wildlife

Thakeham has also produced a Gardening for Wildlife booklet in partnership with Surrey Wildlife Trust to develop the relationship we have with nature and is a testament to their dedication to nature recovery. The guide allows as many people as possible to become involved in Thakeham’s sustainability journey and how we can transform our gardens into a space that promotes and prioritises biodiversity, just like the wildlife garden at the showhome.
