Valuable insight at HBF Future Talent Conference
The HBF Future Talent Conference has made a welcome arrival once again. HBF is the Home Builders Federation representing home builders in England and Wales, whom are committed to delivering around 80% of homes each year. The conference remains the main HBF event bringing together trainees, graduates and apprentices with ambition and aspiration to progress their careers within the home building industry.
Who we are
First and foremost, Thakeham are community creators committed to people, communities and creating amazing places to live.
A founder member of the HBF Housing and Environment taskforce and 5* HBF Home Builders, our Zero Carbon infrastructure-led placemaking approach is widely accepted as being at the forefront of community creation in the UK.
We have been involved from the beginning representing SMEs and play a leading role in the Future Homes Hub Task Force. Our Director of Sustainability, Josie Thornewill, was recently appointed as the first Head of Zero Carbon Placemaking and Nature at the Future Homes Hub, read more on her leading role here.
Most recently, Thakeham became the #1 best Construction & Engineering company to work for in the UK, recognising us as leaders in the industry through our employee support and providing inspirational leadership.
Committed to supporting and attracting new talent
Our CEO, Rob Boughton, is currently presenting at the HBF Future Talent Conference, to encourage new talent to join our mission in the construction industry.
Thakeham is passionate about building future generations, so much so we made it a key part of how we deliver our Social Value strategy.
We made the crucial commitment to become a Cornerstone Employer for the Careers Hub, as part of our drive to nurture talent and inspire young people. In addition to this, our HR Director, Liane Richardson, is the Chair for the Careers Hub and Vice Chair for the Skills 360 Board at the Coast to Capital LEP.
We have a structured development programme of 2-3 years in place for those early in their career, covering everything from Construction Management to Marketing. We also have placement students, graduates and apprentices join us each year. Internally, the Thakeham Family are encouraged and supported to stretch themselves, to take on new challenges and develop their careers.
Importantly, wellbeing, physical and mental health remains a huge focus within the business, currently we are running a Mental Health & Wellbeing initiative.
Leading the way – Levelling up
We studied the commitments and ambitions across the industry before creating our Sustainability Strategy and found that housebuilders just aren’t doing enough.
We understand the importance of committing to a Sustainable future, and not just talking about it, but actually taking action:
Thakeham were the first UK housebuilder to sign the SME Climate Hub commitment, joining us to the UN’s Race To Zero.
Thakeham is the only housebuilder with Net Zero commitments across our homes, production and operation.
Thakeham is the only developer to commit to 20% Biodiversity Net Gain.
