We inspire children to engage with and strive toward aspirational futures delivering a stronger connection to their environment, as well as motivating them to future careers in our industry.
Primary School Children
For primary age children, Thakeham deliver social value via our Eddie & Ellie Wild Adventures programme. Eddie & Ellie’s Wild Adventures is our industry leading, holistic ecology programme aimed at supporting KS2 Primary Pupils. The programme follows the life cycle of a development to deliver a series of workshops, in school activities and site visits, using a children’s book as springboard into a number of National Curriculum topics.
Secondary School Children
For secondary age children, we focus on bright futures and create social value through our work as a Cornerstone Employer with the Careers Enterprise Company. We collaborate closely with the Coast to Capital, Enterprise M3 and East Sussex LEP’s, as well as other education providers and influencers.
We address the skills gaps our sector faces through a programme of in depth work experience, virtual careers insight days, face-to-face and online school careers talks, fairs and outreach programmes. This compliments our work with further education and apprenticeship providers to support young people joining our industry.
“Thank you for sharing your experience and journey (so far) with the Year 12 students. You’re both amazing ambassadors for your organisation and sector… It’s so inspiring for young people to hear directly from other young people!”
Lisa Mobbs, Careers Hub & EAN Lead, Coast to Capital LEP.
Education Facilities
In addition to our schools engagement programmes, we are also passionate about delivering state of the art education facilities. We know that research has found that students in poor buildings scored between 5 and 10 percentile rank points lower than students in functional buildings on academic tests after controlling for socioeconomic status. (source: Glenn Earthman). This means our buildings can have a huge impact on students wellbeing and attainment levels.
Case Study: Goodwood Education Centre
During 2020 Thakeham built Goodwood Education Centre, working in collaboration with our supply chain to deliver a state-of-the-art facility with over £400k of services and materials donated to the project, which will see over 3,000 visitors per annum.
Tomorrows Engineers Code
We are delighted to be a supporter of The Code, working with other organisations to increase the diversity and number of young people in Engineering.
As part of our drive to build future generations we are proud to support STEM students, sharing our knowledge and improving the quality, inclusivity, targeting and reach of activities for young people.
Industry Champions
We are proud to be Industry Champions in the East Sussex LEP area. Recognising the work we do in schools to support young people’s careers education and inspiring future generations to join the construction sector.
