PARTNER: Eastbourne Borough Council
Plots: 1 (Commercial unit used as a community café)
Status: Completed
Thakeham Partnerships was delighted to be appointed by Eastbourne Borough Council for the modernisation of Princes Park Café.
The café scheme was tendered on a Design and Build basis using the JCT form of contract. The existing café building was no longer fit for purpose and required extensive modernisation. A popular venue, it was important to carry out the works over a short timescale to minimise disruption for the local community. In just 20 weeks the transformation was complete.
The contemporary café facilities now include decking overlooking the lake, a pedestrian link from the promenade, and a new entrance. Both the internal and external works ensure the café will serve the local community for years to come.
During the project lifecycle it was confirmed that the University of Brighton would take a 10-year lease on the café and operate the facilities both as a café and as a training venue for tourism and leisure students. This agreement and investment ensures the café delivers a high quality service for the local community and visitors, while creating training and job opportunities for students.
