Villas win Best House at What House? Awards

The Villas on the Green at Woodgate have been awarded the Silver prize in the Best House category at the prestigious What House? Awards 2022, its second national award this year.

Known as the Oscars of the housebuilding industry, the What House? Awards celebrate the best new homes across the UK. In the competitive Best House category, Thakeham took the Silver trophy for delivering a high-quality family home of exceptional standard. The judges said, “The second floor is the real showstopper; a contemporary, spacious open-plan kitchen/family living area, flooded with natural light thanks to the wonderfully high vaulted ceiling above.”

These impressive four-bedroom homes are remarkable for their Scandinavian influence and non-traditional layout. Rising to two or three storeys, the properties echo the grandeur and presence of Edwardian villas which deliver expansive space for the footprint. The external architecture is Nordic in style, providing a modern twist through angular facades and large expanses of glass that allow natural light to flood into the homes.

Rob Boughton, CEO at The Thakeham Group, said:

We’re particularly proud to have been awarded in this competitive category. The striking contemporary design of the Villas on the Green, less common in country developments, will appeal to people who want a countryside lifestyle but a modern, high specification home, one that stands out from the crowd and is sure to impress.

The superb winning three-storey showhome features an expansive second floor dedicated to open-plan living space. Understated elegance blends with ‘hygge’ to create a cosy and comforting feel. Turning convention on its head, this floor boasts a large kitchen, dining and living room, ideal for entertaining and for family life, with elevated ceilings and large expanses of glass providing ample natural light. Bi-fold doors lead out onto a sizeable roof terrace, with far-reaching views overlooking the village green.

The ground floor comprises a large double bedroom with en suite shower room, an office/snug which leads out onto the secluded rear garden, as well as a utility room with access through to the garage. On the first floor, the main bedroom suite features a walk-in wardrobe and an en suite bathroom, while two further double bedrooms are served by a family bathroom. A formal living room is also located on this floor.
