Our new homes development at Newick Hill have allowed us the opportunity to leave behind a legacy: Reedens Meadows
Our new homes development at Newick Hill have allowed us the opportunity to leave behind a legacy: Reedens Meadows – a new green space for Newick. An area of approximately 29 acres of green open space on the western side of the village, delivering a wonderful natural resource for the whole community to enjoy including woodland, wildflower meadows, a variety of walks.
Reedens Meadows is officially known as a SANG. This area of the District is affected by recreational pressures on the Ashdown Forest Special Protection Area (SPA). To deliver essential new housing to Newick, Thakeham worked closely with the District Council and Natural England to agree the provision of a new Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace (SANG) for the village, to provide a recreation resource for both existing and future residents of Newick and to alleviate pressure on the Ashdown Forest.
An allocation for 31 new homes
On progression of the promotion of the land towards the Newick Neighbourhood Plan, Thakeham received an allocation for 31 homes. With an option agreement with the landowners in place, Thakeham worked closely with the local community to meet the aspirations of the Parish Council, whilst receiving a positive recommendation from the case officer.
Ghyll Croft is a small development of just 31 new homes, a short walk from the village centre. With nearly a dozen different property styles, reflecting local vernacular and architectural styles, the mix of new homes includes rare bungalows and chalet bungalows. The development has attracted plenty of local interest with buyers from the local area including family members who are looking to move back to Newick. The new homes allow this thriving village community to grow without impacting local amenities, and Reedens Meadows will be valued by the whole village.
